Rescue Operations

The fundamental idea that led to the foundation of the Baden-Württemberg cave Rescue over 25 years ago was to organise a team of specialists to aid fellow cavers following underground incidents. Today, as caves are now also visited by Geocachers and adventure seekers, the necessity of a competent cave rescue team is even more evident. There are over 3,000 caves in Baden-Württemberg and our operational area is generally confined to this region although we are always ready to aid colleagues in other parts of the Germany or even in neighbouring countries if the need arises. In such a case the coordination of the rescue operation is carried out by the organisation requiring our help or, in the case of Germany, by the national cave rescue organisation. A cave rescue operation demands a great amount of physical and psychological fitness as well as a high level of teamwork on the part of the rescuers.
